Aerial Yoga at Bruny Island Yoga

Our boutique studio offers small classes with personalised guidance—aerial yoga classes are limited to five students.
Advance booking and payment are required.

Aerial yoga is a joyful and supportive practice that combines traditional yoga with elements of movement, play, and suspension using a soft fabric hammock. Suspended from the ceiling, the hammock acts as both a prop and a partner, allowing you to explore poses on the ground, partially lifted, or fully supported in the air. This unique approach creates a sense of lightness and freedom, while also helping to build strength, improve flexibility, and deepen body awareness.

One of the most loved aspects of aerial yoga is the way it supports the body. The hammock can gently hold you in stretches, assist with balance, and even allow for safe, supported inversions, offering a sense of spinal decompression and release. The practice is both energising and calming, blending strength and mobility with moments of rest and relaxation. Many people find the cocoon-like feeling of the fabric deeply soothing, making it as beneficial for the nervous system as it is for the body.

Aerial yoga is accessible to a wide range of people, including beginners, children, teens, and adults. No previous yoga experience is needed, and classes can be easily adapted to suit different comfort levels, with options to stay close to the ground or explore more elevated poses. As with any movement practice, those with specific health conditions or injuries are encouraged to seek guidance, ensuring a safe and supportive experience for everyone.

Safety is at the heart of aerial yoga. High-quality hammocks and rigging equipment used in Australia are professionally load-tested and designed with generous safety margins, meaning they are incredibly strong and reliable when properly installed. In a guided class setting, you can feel confident knowing that both the equipment and the teaching are designed to support you every step of the way.

To enjoy your practice, simply wear comfortable, fitted clothing that covers the backs of the knees and underarms, and avoid anything with zips or jewellery that could catch on the fabric. Bring along a water bottle and an open mind, and be ready to move, stretch, and perhaps see the world from a whole new perspective.
